Coach says 'the time is right' after 17 years
MANHATTAN -- Tears filled his eyes, over and over again. His voice faltered. His lips quivered.
He paused on at least a half-dozen occasions, each time looking down at the podium as if searching for some semblance of the very stoicism and stability that has come to define him for the better part of two decades.
As expected, coach Bill Snyder announced Tuesday he is retiring from the Kansas State program he rescued from college football's abyss 17 years ago. He just had no idea it would be so difficult.
"I thought I was a little stronger than this," he said.
Snyder will keep plenty busy

Just two days after coaching his final game for Kansas State, Bill Snyder outlined an immediate schedule that was dizzying.
"I've got a full plate," Snyder said during Monday's Big 12 coaches' teleconference.
